The Key to Unlocking Boldness in the New Year

    The I.C.H.I. Mindset

Does being the best guarantee success? How about working hard? Given similar levels of excellence and effort, how come some end up toiling in relative obscurity while others reap all the rewards? If there were a secret ingredient for success, would you want to know?

The Latin phrase “Fortes Fortuna Adiuvat”—fortune favors the bold—captures a timeless truth: success is more likely to come to those who dare to take risks. But taking risks is, by definition, risky. So what separates those who choose to be bold from those who hesitate?

The key is a mindset: a trust in their ability to handle whatever the outcome—good, bad, or otherwise. As a result, they don’t fear failure or disappointment—and that’s why they keep showing up. To help me remember this mindset, I use the mnemonic I.C.H.I.—I Can Handle It.

When you embrace this simple yet powerful mindset, everything changes. Fear of the unknown loses its grip. The hesitation to take a bold step, to reach out, or to try something new fades away. Why? Because you’ve shifted your focus. You’re no longer trying to avoid difficulty or rejection. Instead, you trust your ability to adapt, grow, and thrive regardless of the outcome.

"Ichi" also happens to be the Japanese word for "one" or "first." I use it as a reminder that every bold move begins with a single step. At the end of the day, boldness invites fortune not because of individual outcomes, but because of the momentum it creates.

To cultivate boldness, start small. Take one action today that you’ve been hesitating on. It could be making a call, sending an email, or saying yes to an opportunity that scares you a little. Whisper to yourself: I.C.H.I.—I Can Handle It. With those words, free yourself from the shackles of doubt and take the initiative.

This year invite success by embracing boldness using the I.C.H.I. mindset—I Can Handle It.
