New certification or new perspective?

The lesson I relearned about the value of networking

A few days ago I attended my first event as an MBE certified vendor that was hosted by the organization through which I received my sponsorship, the New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development council.

My original intention was to meet other MBE vendors and find out about their experience and of course, meet potential clients.

I ended up doing both, but more importantly, a third thing happened which I didn't plan for or expect. After hearing many of the presenters and meeting other vendors I realized my expectations for my business were way lower than they could or should be. In truth, I was thinking about earning enough money to pay for my next vacation instead of creating a business that created an outsized impact for thousands of people or could be sold in the future for a huge sum of money.

The experience taught me a valuable lesson which is the same one I teach many of my clients - that it is through connecting with others we learn and grow.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a MBE, let me know! A good place to start is here. And my eternal thanks to Lori Ferguson at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ for mentioning this opportunity to me in the first place. Thanks, Lori!
